Amber Rails
After a period of more than fifteen years spent living in Copenhagen, composer and saxophonist Luboš Soukup moves back to Czechia. Following a string of successful albums made with international line-ups, he releases a new album, Amber Rails, featuring his own original music and an exclusively Czech band. The eight new compositions by Soukup have been inspired by modern jazz, blues and gospel. The line-up of the band features Jiří Levíček on piano, Jaromír Honzák on double bass and Jakub Švejnar on drums and signals Soukup’s return to the Czech roots of his musical language. On this new album, Soukup reaches for harmony and clarity of form where avant-garde techniques might otherwise lead to experimentation and extreme. The result is a free flow of gentle and harmonious modern music. Guitarists David Dorůžka and Casper Hejlesen, a young star on the Danish stage, join the line-up as guests. One of the pieces is dedicated to the memory of Marilyn Mazur, a drummer and a longtime collaborator of Miles Davis, who was an important influence on Soukup and from whose hands he received the prestigious Discovery of the Year prize at the 2017 Danish Music Awards Jazz.
