Mateřština
The album called “Mateřština” (“The Mother Tongue”) features the double bassist and composer Jiri Slavik in the role of a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. In his own compositions he searches for his own cultural roots and explores the legacy of folk music. Apart from the pipes, played by Marian Friedl, Slavík recorded all the parts by himself. The various tracks recorded on the violin, viola, cello, double bass, clarinet, cimbalom and the piano make up indeed for a rough-sounding “contemporary cimbalom band”. “The Mother Tongue” received the “Anděl” Award for the best album of 2017 in the world music category.
