Blue Shadows
On its eponymous album, “Blue Shadows” consist of four musicians with different musical backgrounds: Jiri Barta is a cello virtuoso well-known in the world of classical music; Martin Novák is an excellent drummer and a player with musicians such as Lenka Dusilova, Jana Kirschner and David Dorůžka; a versatile guitarist, Josef Stepanek has performed and recorded with many artists of the alternative scene and pop music; and the guitarist Peter Ostrouchov is known mostly as a composer of film music. The idea of their joint album formed naturally as they collaborated on the recording of the score for the Czech TV miniseries Blue Shadows. Each of the musicians brought to the project their original style and skills and their very diverse musical careers proved to be of an advantage: the final product is a natural sum of their varied musical experience. The album which mixes genres and influences defined most comonly by the term “americana”(i.e. American acoustic music, country, jazz and folk music), is mostly instrumental and consists, for the most part, of compositions that were only sketched in the course of recording. The guest vocalist James Harries is featured in two songs, including the title song “Blue Shadows” from the TV miniseries of the same name.
