Tomáš Sýkora
As a jazz pianist, Tomáš Sýkora performs his own compositions for solo, duo or trio. As a composer, he wrotes music for jazz orchestras and bands, soloists, chamber ensembles and symphonic orchestras specializing in classical music. „My music has been influenced by the American jazz tradition, as well as by European classical music of the 20th and 21st centuries. “Inspiration never comes of its own accord, but I like to search for it. However, the most powerful source of inspiration is my own intuition.“
In June 2021, Tomáš Sýkora released the recording of „Songs for Orchestra“, his most extensive compositional achievement to date that was praised by critics in the annual Czech Radio Jazz poll as one of the best jazz recordings of the year. He recorded it with his own trio and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Štěpánka Balcarová. The recording is inspired by the music of Karel Růžička senior, who was Tomáš’s mentor and friend of many years and contains both Sykora´s compositions as well as symphonic arrangements of both Karel Ruzickas Sr and Jr. Tomáš also performs with his new trio with Tomáš Liška and Roman Vícha, and as one of the members of „The Prague Six“, he has contributed to the original repertoire performed by the Concept Art Orchestra.
